Praise the Lord! The first day of our English Camp is done!
We started the day with morning devotion once again, then a delicious Taiwanese breakfast (yay for danbing)! The students arrived earlier than we expected so we began giving them their placement tests and grading them right away. As the students took their seats in the sanctuary after their tests, it was exciting to see some of our old students as well as a lot of new faces :) We taught them 3 songs while the rest of the tests were being graded, then Pastor Lin told the students the story of the Creation.
We then split up into our respective classes. Our classes all have pretty extreme personalities, which presented some challenges for us:
- Angel Class was restless, noisy, and hard to control. There is also a diverse English level in this class which makes it even harder to teach something that will keep them attentive.
- The Faith, Grace, and Rejoice classes were all very quiet. There were a few students who were willing to participate but many of them were unresponsive. Hopefully after a few days they will feel more comfortable and begin participating more.
- Praise Class was pretty rowdy today. However, they are quick to learn and well-motivated, and they seem to be comfortable already.
Please keep our classes in your prayers!
After class we had a delicious lunch provided by a restaurant near the church.
Our first day was a little bit hectic, but we made it! Despite the struggles today, we have high hopes that God will do His good work through us here and we're very excited to get to know our students throughout the next two weeks!
PRAYER REQUESTS;
1. There were 11 registered students who were unable to make it today. Please pray that they will be able to come!
2. More than half of our students are attending this English Camp for the first time. For some of them, it is their first time stepping into a church. We also have 54 students coming from unbelieving families. Please pray that they will have open hearts and be receptive to the Gospel!
3. We have our first two family visitations tomorrow. Please pray for a fruitful time of visiting and getting to know the families during our visitation time.
4. Please pray for the health of the team so that we can continue going strong for the next two weeks!
Thanks for staying updated :)
P.S. Happy Independence Day! We have sung the Star Spangled Banner many times during the past two days in honor of our country back at home.
